Warsh's Denial of Epstein Ties#
Kevin Warsh, nominated by President Donald Trump for the position of Federal Reserve chair, has firmly denied any connections to Jeffrey Epstein. This response comes after his name appeared in Department of Justice documents related to Epstein, a financier with a controversial past.
Response to Senator Warren#
In written answers to questions posed by Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, Warsh stated that he does not know Epstein or his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. He emphasized that he has never attended any events hosted by them. "I don’t know these people, I did not attend any of their events, nor am I aware of having ever attended an event at which these people were present," Warsh wrote.
Context of the Inquiry#
Senator Warren's questions followed Warsh’s nomination hearing on April 21, where she sought clarification regarding references to him in emails linked to Epstein. These emails included Warsh and his wife on guest lists for events that Epstein was involved in organizing. However, the Justice Department documents do not confirm whether Warsh actually attended any of these events, and he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Vacation Clarification#
Warsh mentioned that he vacationed in St. Barthélemy with his wife in December 2010 but reiterated that they did not participate in any events hosted by Epstein or Maxwell. He also clarified that there are no personal or financial ties between himself, his immediate family, and Epstein. Additionally, he stated that he had no contact with Epstein during his tenure as a consultant at GoldenTree Asset Management LP in Palm Beach.
Next Steps in the Nomination Process#
Senator Warren is a member of the Senate Banking Committee, which is responsible for reviewing Federal Reserve nominees. Recently, Warsh's nomination was approved by the committee with a narrow 13-11 party-line vote, moving it forward to the full Senate for confirmation before the current Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s term concludes on May 15.
