Vodafone's Major Acquisition#
Vodafone Group has announced its plan to acquire CK Hutchison’s 49% stake in their joint venture, VodafoneThree, for £4.3 billion (approximately $5.8 billion). This move will give Vodafone complete ownership of the venture, which is significant in the UK mobile market.
Details of the Deal#
The agreement between Vodafone and CK Hutchison involves a capital reduction and share cancellation. This means that Vodafone will absorb CK Hutchison's shares in VodafoneThree, solidifying its position as the sole owner of the venture.
VodafoneThree's Market Position#
VodafoneThree is currently the largest mobile network operator in the UK, serving over 28 million customers. The joint venture was established in early 2023 through a merger between Vodafone UK and Three UK, with CK Hutchison being the parent company of Three UK. The merger was completed in May 2025, and the joint venture has an enterprise value of about £13.85 billion.
Funding the Acquisition#
Vodafone has stated that it will finance this acquisition using its existing cash reserves. This approach allows the company to maintain financial stability while expanding its market presence.
