Revenue Growth Driven by Gameloft#
Vivendi SA reported a modest increase in its first-quarter revenue, rising 1.3% year-on-year to 69 million euros (approximately $81 million). This growth was primarily fueled by the performance of its video game unit, Gameloft, which contributed nearly all of the company's revenue during this period.
Gameloft's Stability in a Tough Market#
Despite challenges in the broader video game industry, Gameloft has shown resilience. The company plans to release two new games in 2026, which may further bolster its revenue. Additionally, Vivendi's recent acquisition of the luxury division of Prisma Media is expected to start contributing to revenue from the second quarter of 2026.
Decline in Portfolio Value#
Vivendi's overall portfolio value saw a significant decline, dropping from 5.5 billion euros at the end of December to 4.4 billion euros by March 31. This decrease was largely attributed to a fall in the value of its stake in Universal Music Group, which experienced a downturn due to disappointing earnings and a delay in its U.S. listing plans.
Recent Recovery and Future Plans#
However, Universal Music's shares rebounded sharply in early April following a proposed $64 billion takeover by Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Capital. This recovery positively impacted Vivendi's portfolio, which was valued at 5.18 billion euros as of April 20, 2026. The company has undergone significant restructuring and cost-cutting measures, returning to profit in 2025, and plans to discuss potential capital return strategies at an upcoming shareholder meeting.
