Vietjet Air's New Aircraft Delivery#
Vietjet Air, a Vietnamese budget airline, is preparing to receive its first A330neo aircraft. This delivery is part of an order made last year, as the airline gears up to introduce direct flights to Europe. Board member Philipp Rosler announced this development on Friday.
Expansion Plans to Europe#
The airline ordered 20 A330neo aircraft during a visit from French President Emmanuel Macron to Vietnam. The A330neo is a wide-body aircraft designed for long-haul flights, which is essential for Vietjet's plans to connect with European destinations. Potential cities for these new routes include the Czech Republic, Germany, Britain, and France. The launch of these flights will depend on the delivery schedule set by Airbus.
Developing Aviation Finance in Asia#
In addition to expanding its flight routes, Vietjet aims to transform Ho Chi Minh City into a hub for aviation finance in the Asia-Pacific region. This initiative seeks to centralize aircraft financing, leasing, insurance, and capital market activities closer to Asia's growing aviation markets, reducing reliance on European centers like Ireland.
Current Operations and Fleet#
Recently, Vietjet adjusted its flight schedule due to concerns over potential fuel shortages; however, Rosler confirmed that the airline's operations remain normal. The airline has also phased out two COMAC aircraft previously used for flights to Con Dao but plans to continue using these Chinese-made planes on routes to China. Currently, Vietjet operates a fleet of approximately 135 aircraft, primarily from Airbus, and has placed orders for around 600 additional planes from Airbus and Boeing, which will be delivered over the coming years.
