Market Overview#

U.S. stock markets ended lower on Friday, driven by losses in key sectors such as Basic Materials, Technology, and Industrials. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.25%, reaching a new three-month low, while the S&P 500 index dropped 0.60%, and the NASDAQ Composite index decreased by 0.93%.

Notable Performers#

Among the Dow's biggest gainers were Boeing Co, which saw an increase of 2.51% or 5.13 points, closing at 209.89. UnitedHealth Group also performed well, rising by 1.82% or 5.04 points to finish at 282.09. Verizon Communications Inc added 1.45% or 0.74 points, closing at 51.37.

On the other hand, Salesforce Inc was the biggest loser in the Dow, dropping 3.25% or 6.48 points to 192.80. Apple Inc followed with a decline of 2.21% or 5.65 points, ending at 250.12, while NVIDIA Corporation fell by 1.58% or 2.89 points to close at 180.25.

Sector Performance#

In the S&P 500, top performers included Micron Technology Inc, which rose 5.13% to 426.13, and International Paper, up 4.56% to 37.28. However, Ulta Beauty Inc faced significant losses, down 14.24% to 535.72, followed by Adobe Systems, which lost 7.60% to settle at 249.28.

Overall, declining stocks outnumbered rising ones, with 1,744 stocks falling compared to 1,004 that rose on the NYSE. The CBOE Volatility Index, which indicates market volatility, decreased by 0.29% to 27.21. In commodities, Gold Futures fell by 2.06% to $5,020.44 per troy ounce, while crude oil prices rose, with April delivery up 2.85% to $98.46 a barrel.
