U.S. Stock Futures Increase#
U.S. stock futures saw a slight increase on Thursday evening, following record highs for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite. Investors are currently balancing positive corporate earnings with ongoing geopolitical concerns related to the Iran conflict.
Record Highs for Major Indices#
The S&P 500 Futures rose by 0.2% to 7,258.0 points, while Nasdaq 100 Futures edged up 0.1% to 27,626.75 points. The Dow Jones Futures also gained 0.2%, reaching 49,917.0 points. On Thursday, the S&P 500 closed up 1% at a record high above 7,200, with the Nasdaq Composite gaining approximately 0.9%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average led the way with a 1.6% increase. This upward trend was driven by strong earnings reports from major companies, which helped to alleviate concerns about inflation and geopolitical risks.
Apple’s Strong Earnings#
In after-hours trading, shares of Apple rose by 4% following the release of its quarterly earnings report. Investors responded positively to signs of strong demand for iPhones and continued growth in its high-margin services sector. Apple reported record total revenue and profit per share, with iPhone sales increasing by over 20% for the second consecutive quarter. Additionally, shares of Reddit surged nearly 13% after reporting better-than-expected first-quarter results, including higher daily active users.
Ongoing Geopolitical Concerns#
Despite the positive market performance, geopolitical risks continue to loom. Reports indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump is set to receive a briefing on new military options regarding Iran, raising concerns about potential escalation in the region. Iran has warned that any U.S. attack would lead to significant retaliatory strikes on American positions. The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil shipments, remains effectively shut, impacting supply expectations. Earlier on Thursday, Brent crude oil prices surged to over $126 per barrel, the highest in four years, before retreating to around $114 due to profit-taking and currency fluctuations.
