U.K. Market Overview#

On Tuesday, U.K. equities closed higher, buoyed by strong performances in the Automobiles & Parts, Mining, and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors. The Investing.com United Kingdom 100 index rose by 1.53% at the close in London.

Top Performers#

The biggest gainers on the index included Fresnillo PLC, which surged by 8.10%, adding 284 points to trade at 3,792.00. Anglo American PLC followed with a 6.56% increase, rising 205 points to close at 3,332.00. Antofagasta PLC also saw a notable rise of 5.98%, gaining 219 points to finish at 3,881.00.

Notable Declines#

On the flip side, some stocks experienced declines. Flutter Entertainment PLC fell by 2.17%, losing 176 points to trade at 7,946.00. BP PLC saw a decrease of 2.05%, down 10.45 points to end at 499.55, while Vistry Group PLC dropped 1.71%, shedding 7.20 points to close at 414.70.

Market Statistics#

Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered those that fell, with 1,380 stocks gaining compared to 433 that declined, while 489 remained unchanged on the London Stock Exchange. In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery increased by 2.68%, reaching $5,240.39 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude oil prices fell significantly, with April delivery down 14.99% to $80.56 per barrel, and the May Brent oil contract down 14.36% to $84.75 per barrel.

In currency markets, the GBP/USD exchange rate remained stable at 1.35, while the EUR/GBP was slightly unchanged at 0.87. The US Dollar Index Futures decreased by 0.64%, settling at 98.54.
