Top Performers#
Despite the overall market decline, some companies managed to post gains. BP PLC saw an increase of 2.89%, adding 14.45 points to close at 514.00. Rentokil Initial PLC also performed well, rising by 2.48% or 11.30 points to end at 467.30. Additionally, Shell PLC climbed 2.00%, gaining 63.50 points to trade at 3,244.00.
Notable Declines#
On the other hand, several companies faced significant losses. Legal & General Group PLC dropped 6.77%, losing 17.50 points to trade at 241.00. Smiths Group PLC fell by 4.54%, down 118.00 points to close at 2,482.00. ICG PLC also saw a decline of 4.44%, shedding 71.00 points to end at 1,527.00.
Market Statistics#
Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 1,173 stocks falling compared to 628 that gained, while 502 remained unchanged on the London Stock Exchange. In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery decreased by 1.09%, settling at $5,185.14 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude oil prices rose, with April delivery increasing by 3.68% to $86.52 a barrel, and the May Brent oil contract up by 4.21% to $91.50 a barrel. Currency exchange rates remained relatively stable, with GBP/USD unchanged at 1.34 and EUR/GBP at 0.86.
