Trump's Skepticism on Iran's Actions#

President Donald Trump expressed doubt on Wednesday regarding reports that Iran has laid mines in the Strait of Hormuz. When asked by reporters, he stated, "We don’t think so," contradicting a Reuters report that claimed Iran had placed around a dozen mines in this crucial waterway.

Encouraging Oil Companies#

Trump urged American oil companies to continue using the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that they "should" navigate this route despite the tensions. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital passage for oil shipments, making its safety important for global energy markets.

Conflict Timeline Unclear#

While Trump believes the ongoing conflict will end soon, he did not provide a specific timeline. He mentioned, "we’re not finished yet," indicating that the U.S. needs to maintain its current approach. In a previous interview, he suggested that the war would conclude soon, citing that there is "practically nothing left to target" in Iran. However, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth clarified that there is no set timeline for the complete defeat of Iran.

Warnings and Global Oil Supply#

In light of the situation, the U.S. Central Command issued a warning for civilians to avoid all port facilities where Iranian naval forces are operating. Additionally, the International Energy Agency announced the release of 400 million barrels from emergency oil reserves, surpassing the 182 million barrels released after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. With global crude consumption slightly above 100 million barrels daily, Gulf producers have had to cut output by about 6% so far. Reports also indicated that three vessels were struck by suspected projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, raising further concerns about maritime safety.
