Introduction#
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced the first members of his President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. This council will consist of notable figures from the technology sector who will provide guidance on science and technology policies.
Key Appointments#
The council will be co-chaired by David Sacks and Michael Kratsios. Among the appointed members are several influential technology executives: - Marc Andreessen, a venture capitalist and co-founder of Andreessen Horowitz. - Sergey Brin, co-founder of Alphabet, the parent company of Google. - Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms, known for Facebook.
Additionally, executives from Oracle, including Larry Ellison and Safra Catz, as well as Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell Technologies, have also been appointed. Representing the semiconductor industry are Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, and Lisa Su, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
Purpose of the Council#
The primary goal of the council, established by Executive Order, is to advise the president on how to enhance American leadership in science and technology. The council will focus on the opportunities and challenges that emerging technologies pose for the American workforce.
Future Developments#
The council has the capacity to include up to 24 members, with more appointments expected soon. Details regarding the council’s first meeting will also be shared in the near future. This initiative continues a long-standing tradition in U.S. history, as presidents have created science advisory committees since Franklin D. Roosevelt established his Science Advisory Board in 1933.
