U.S. Marines Head to the Middle East#

Thousands of U.S. Marines are on their way to the Middle East, aligning with President Trump's deadline for Iran to reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz. This strategic move comes as tensions rise in the region.

Details of the Deployment#

The amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and the amphibious landing dock USS New Orleans are set to enter U.S. Central Command on Friday. These vessels will bring approximately 2,200 Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. However, it will take several days for this unit to reach the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments.

Additional Marine Unit En Route#

In response to the escalating situation, the Pentagon has ordered a second Marine unit to the region. The California-based 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which is currently aboard the USS Boxer amphibious ready group, is scheduled to depart in a few weeks. This additional deployment underscores the U.S. commitment to maintaining stability in the region.
