Overview#

Texas Capital has started coverage on Strategy Inc, giving it a Buy rating and setting a price target of $200. The firm believes that Strategy, a prominent digital asset treasury manager, is well-positioned as institutional acceptance of bitcoin continues to grow.

Bitcoin's Role in Strategy Inc#

The company, led by Michael Saylor, closely ties its performance to bitcoin's price fluctuations. Texas Capital views Strategy's approach of increasing the amount of bitcoin per share as a long-term value driver. They note that recent regulatory changes and increasing corporate adoption have made bitcoin a more recognized asset than many investors realize.

Financial Projections#

Texas Capital anticipates that bitcoin will appreciate by about 10% annually and estimates that Strategy will issue $17 billion in capital by 2026. Based on these projections and a valuation method that applies a 1.19 times multiple to net asset value, they arrive at a target price of $200, suggesting a potential upside of around 42%.

Market Conditions and Risks#

The brokerage points out that Strategy's financial position is relatively stable, with debt constituting about 14% of its capital and a cash reserve of $2.25 billion. This reserve is seen as a buffer against market volatility, covering interest and dividend obligations for about two years. However, Texas Capital also acknowledges risks, such as the company's dependence on external funding and potential technological threats to crypto security. Despite these risks, they believe that Strategy's liquidity and access to capital markets help mitigate concerns.

Recent Performance#

In its latest quarterly report, Strategy Inc faced a significant loss, recording a $12.4 billion loss, or $42.93 per share, for the quarter ending December 31. This was a stark contrast to a loss of $670.8 million, or $3.03 per share, in the same quarter of the previous year. As of February 1, the company held 713,502 bitcoins, with a total investment of $54.26 billion, averaging $76,052 per bitcoin.
