Leadership Change at Tether#
Tether, the leading stablecoin issuer, announced on Thursday that Richard Heathcote, the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), will be stepping down from his role. He will be succeeded by his deputy, Zachary Lyons. Heathcote has decided to focus on personal and family priorities but will continue to support the company in a non-executive advisory capacity.
Achievements of Richard Heathcote#
During his time as CIO, Heathcote played a significant role in establishing partnerships with some of the largest financial institutions in the United States. These collaborations have been crucial for Tether's growth and reputation in the financial sector.
Zachary Lyons Takes the Helm#
Zachary Lyons, the new CIO, will oversee Tether's investments in technologies and infrastructure that align with the company’s long-term goals. Lyons has been instrumental in Tether's recent ventures, including the acquisition of a stake in the Italian football club Juventus. In October 2025, he was one of two candidates proposed by Tether for a position on the Juventus board.
Tether's Investment Portfolio#
Under Heathcote's leadership, Tether has expanded its investment portfolio significantly, now encompassing over 120 companies. This includes investments in diverse sectors, such as a South American agricultural firm and the stake in Juventus. Tether, based in El Salvador, is recognized as the world’s largest stablecoin issuer, with approximately $184 billion in dollar-pegged crypto tokens currently in circulation.
