Strong Profit Growth#
Tele2 AB, a leading Swedish telecommunications company, reported a significant increase in its first-quarter profit. The company announced that its net profit for the three months ending March 31 surged to 6.39 billion Swedish krone (approximately $700 million), up from 875 million krone during the same period last year. This remarkable growth is primarily attributed to the financial returns from its recent spinoff of Baltic tower assets.
Revenue Increases#
In addition to profit growth, Tele2 also saw a 2.5% increase in revenue, reaching 7.24 billion krone for the quarter. The company’s Swedish consumer business, which includes mobile and fixed connections, played a crucial role in driving this revenue growth. A key performance metric, known as end-user service revenue, also rose by 3.4% compared to the previous year.
Future Expectations#
Looking ahead, Tele2 has maintained its guidance for 2026, anticipating low single-digit organic growth in both revenue and core earnings. The company expects its capital expenditures to be around 10-11% of sales, indicating a focus on sustainable growth.
Strategic Moves#
The cash proceeds from the Baltic tower spinoff amounted to 4.7 billion krone in the quarter. This spinoff was part of a strategic deal with Global Communications Infrastructure to create a dedicated company for its tower assets, finalized in late 2025. CEO Jean Marc Harion emphasized that Tele2 is also working on reducing costs and simplifying operations while exploring opportunities in artificial intelligence.
