Medical device manufacturer Stryker announced on Tuesday that it has successfully contained a cyberattack that significantly disrupted its business operations. The company is now prioritizing the restoration of systems that are essential for customer support, including order processing and shipping.
Details of the Incident#
The cyberattack occurred on March 11 and was linked to a hacking group named Handala, which is believed to have ties to Iran. This group claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it was a form of retaliation for a specific incident in Iran. As a result of the attack, Stryker experienced challenges in processing orders, manufacturing products, and shipping them to customers.
Impact on Operations#
Stryker's investigation revealed that various devices, including cellphones and laptops running Microsoft’s Windows operating system, were affected by the cyberattack. However, the company assured that no patient-related services or connected medical products were compromised during this incident. Despite the disruption, Stryker has not disclosed any specific financial implications resulting from the attack.
Ongoing Response and Investigation#
With a workforce of 56,000 employees across 61 countries, Stryker is actively collaborating with relevant authorities and external cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident further. The company is committed to ensuring the security of its operations and restoring full functionality as quickly as possible.
