Market Overview#
Spain's stock market experienced a downturn on Thursday, with the IBEX 35 index closing down by 1.22%. This decline was primarily driven by losses in several sectors, including Financial Services & Real Estate, Consumer Services, and Building & Construction.
Notable Gainers#
Despite the overall decline, some stocks managed to gain. Repsol saw an increase of 2.63%, closing at 22.27. Endesa SA rose by 1.76% to finish at 34.76, while Iberdrola increased by 1.72%, ending the day at 19.54.
Major Losers#
On the other hand, several stocks faced significant losses. Unicaja Banco SA dropped 4.56% to close at 2.47. Banco de Sabadell SA fell by 4.16%, ending at 3.04, and ArcelorMittal SA decreased by 4.10%, closing at 46.74. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 140 declines compared to 54 gains, and 10 stocks remaining unchanged on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
Commodities and Currency Update#
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery fell by 0.92%, settling at $5,131.21 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude oil prices rose, with April delivery increasing by 8.81% to $94.94 per barrel, and the May Brent oil contract rising by 8.16% to $99.49 per barrel.
In the currency market, the EUR/USD exchange rate remained stable, changing by only 0.35% to 1.15, while EUR/GBP was virtually unchanged at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures saw a slight increase of 0.40%, reaching 99.63.
