Continued Partnership with Nvidia#

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, announced that both companies will keep ordering Nvidia Corporation chips at a large scale. This decision highlights the importance of Nvidia's technology in the operations of both firms.

Development of In-House AI Chips#

Musk also shared updates on Tesla's progress in creating its own next-generation artificial intelligence chip, known as the AI5. He expressed confidence that this chip will deliver exceptional performance, particularly for Tesla's Optimus robot and robotaxi projects. The AI5 is expected to be a key component in Tesla's future innovations.

Timeline for AI Chip Production#

Last week, Musk mentioned that Tesla's Terafab project, which focuses on building AI chips, is set to launch on March 21. Although he previously indicated that the AI5 design was nearly complete, reports suggest that mass production may not begin until mid-2027.

AI Initiatives and Future Plans#

Musk's AI startup, xAI, which is now part of SpaceX, has been utilizing Nvidia chips for its Grok AI. Additionally, Tesla has relied on Nvidia chips for its AI needs, especially after disbanding its Dojo computing complex last year. Despite this reliance, Tesla is determined to develop its own custom AI chips, having signed a significant deal with Samsung worth $16.5 billion for this purpose. Musk envisions AI and robotics as crucial growth areas for Tesla, especially as the company faces challenges with declining sales over the past two years. Furthermore, SpaceX is planning to establish AI data centers in space, expanding its technological ambitions.
