Overview of Market Performance#

On Friday, Russian equities closed lower, primarily influenced by losses in the Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, and Power sectors. The MOEX Russia Index, which tracks the performance of the Russian stock market, ended the day down by 0.07%.

Notable Gainers and Losers#

Among the stocks that performed well, OZON saw an increase of 1.21%, rising 55 points to close at 4,593.50. Severstal PJSC followed with a gain of 0.89%, adding 8.20 points to finish at 927.80. Unipro PJSC also experienced a slight increase of 0.56%, closing at 1.54.

In contrast, some stocks faced significant declines. NOVATEK PJSC dropped by 1.40%, losing 19.70 points to trade at 1,384.30. OK Rusal MKPAO fell by 1.31%, down 0.59 points to end at 44.37, while PIK SHb PJSC decreased by 1.07%, closing at 469.70.

Market Dynamics#

Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered those that fell, with 121 stocks gaining compared to 110 that lost ground, while 22 remained unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange. The Russian Volatility Index (RVI), which indicates market volatility, rose by 3.20% to reach 22.28, marking a new low for the past year.

Commodity and Currency Movements#

In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery saw a decrease of 2.00%, settling at $5,023.10 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude oil prices increased, with April delivery rising by 3.74% to $99.31 per barrel, and May Brent oil climbing 3.22% to $103.69 per barrel.

In currency markets, the Russian Ruble weakened against the US Dollar, which rose by 1.61% to 80.77, while the Euro gained slightly against the Ruble, increasing by 0.01% to 91.45. The US Dollar Index Futures also saw an uptick of 0.75%, reaching 100.50.
