Market Overview#

On Tuesday, Russian equities closed lower, with the MOEX Russia Index dropping by 1.19%. This decline was primarily influenced by downturns in the Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, and Telecom sectors.

Notable Performers#

Despite the overall market decline, some stocks managed to gain. OK Rusal MKPAO saw a rise of 3.15%, increasing by 1.36 points to close at 44.42. Federal Hydro Generating Company RusHydro PJSC followed closely with a 3.05% increase, adding 0.01 points to end at 0.46. Polyus PJSC also performed well, climbing 2.59% or 62.20 points to reach 2,464.40.

Declining Stocks#

On the flip side, several companies faced losses. TATNEFT n.a. V.D. Shashin experienced a decline of 1.79%, losing 11.60 points to trade at 635.00. Aeroflot PJSC fell by 1.64%, down 0.86 points to close at 51.71, while AFK Sistema PJSC decreased by 1.55%, shedding 0.21 points to end at 13.49.

Trading Activity#

In total, advancing stocks outnumbered those that fell, with 144 gaining and 95 losing, while 13 remained unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange. The Russian Volatility Index (RVI), which gauges market volatility, decreased by 1.55% to 24.19.

Commodity Prices#

In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery rose by 1.86%, reaching $5,198.70 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude oil for April delivery fell by 8.84%, settling at $86.39 per barrel, while the May Brent oil contract saw a slight increase of 0.08%, trading at $91.12 per barrel. Currency exchange rates remained stable, with USD/RUB unchanged at 79.21 and EUR/RUB at 91.80. The US Dollar Index Futures also dipped by 0.26%, landing at 98.91.
