Market Overview#

Russian equities experienced a positive close on Wednesday, with the MOEX Russia Index rising by 0.57%. This increase was largely fueled by strong performances in the Oil & Gas, Power, and Manufacturing sectors.

Top Performers#

Among the biggest gainers on the MOEX Russia Index was NOVATEK PJSC, which saw a significant rise of 5.42%, adding 73.50 points to reach a closing price of 1,429.60. Rosneft PJSC also performed well, increasing by 3.10% or 15.40 points, ending at 511.90. TATNEFT n.a. V.D. Shashin followed, with a gain of 2.33% or 14.70 points, closing at 644.90.

Notable Declines#

On the flip side, VK Company Ltd experienced a decline of 2.85%, losing 8.85 points to trade at 301.45. Polyus PJSC also fell by 2.42%, down 57.80 points to close at 2,328.40. OK Rusal MKPAO rounded out the losers with a drop of 2.37%, ending at 43.06.

Market Dynamics#

Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 133 stocks falling compared to 112 that gained, while 8 remained unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange. The Russian Volatility Index (RVI), which indicates market uncertainty, increased by 0.62% to reach 26.11.

In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery fell by 3.68% to $4,823.90 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices showed mixed results, with May delivery crude oil rising by 3.68% to $99.05 per barrel, while the May Brent oil contract decreased by 0.67% to $110.21 per barrel. Currency exchange rates remained stable, with the USD/RUB and EUR/RUB both unchanged at 84.55 and 96.05, respectively.
