Overview of the Market#
On Sunday, Russian stocks experienced a decline as trading came to a close. The MOEX Russia Index, which tracks the performance of the country's largest companies, remained unchanged at 0.00%.
Top Performers#
Despite the overall downturn, some companies saw gains. Rosneft PJSC, a major oil company, rose by 2.38%, adding 10.20 points to reach a closing price of 438.15. TATNEFT, another oil and gas company, also performed well, with its preferred shares increasing by 2.13% or 11.40 points, closing at 546.60. Additionally, TATNEFT's regular shares rose by 1.94%, ending at 578.50.
Notable Declines#
On the other hand, several companies faced losses. Polyus PJSC, a gold mining company, saw a decrease of 1.20%, dropping 27.20 points to close at 2,236.00. MMC Norilsk Nickel, a leading producer of nickel and palladium, declined by 0.99%, ending the day at 136.30. Moskovskiy Kreditnyi Bank also fell by 0.79%, closing at 7.77. Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones by 162 to 68, with 17 stocks remaining unchanged.
Volatility and Commodities#
The Russian Volatility Index (RVI), which indicates market uncertainty, remained stable at 20.45. In commodities, gold futures for June delivery increased by 1.48%, reaching $4,879.60 per troy ounce. Conversely, crude oil prices fell significantly, with June contracts dropping by 11.45% to $82.59 per barrel, while Brent oil decreased by 9.07%, trading at $90.38 per barrel.
Currency Movements#
In currency markets, the Russian ruble weakened against the US dollar, falling by 0.47% to 76.00, and against the euro, which declined by 0.62% to 89.40. The US Dollar Index Futures also saw a slight decrease of 0.13%, settling at 97.90.
