Market Overview#
On Wednesday, Russian equities experienced a modest increase, with the MOEX Russia Index rising by 0.08% at the close of trading in Moscow. This uptick was largely fueled by positive performances in the Power, Mining, and Manufacturing sectors.
Top Performers#
Among the notable gainers on the MOEX Russia Index, Gazprom PJSC saw a rise of 1.58%, adding 2.12 points to close at 136.40. Novolipetsk Steel also performed well, increasing by 1.48% or 1.46 points to finish at 100.18. Additionally, Bank VTB PJSC gained 1.40%, up 1.20 points to close at 86.76.
Decliners#
Conversely, some stocks faced declines. Magnit PJSC was the biggest loser, dropping 1.76% or 56.50 points to trade at 3,148.50. NOVATEK PJSC followed with a decline of 1.63%, down 22.60 points to end at 1,361.50. AK ALROSA PJSC also saw a decrease of 1.53%, shedding 0.57 points to close at 36.64.
Market Statistics#
Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 126 stocks falling compared to 113 that gained, while 14 remained unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange. The Russian Volatility Index (RVI), which gauges market volatility, decreased by 4.43% to 23.73.
Commodities Update#
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery rose by 2.29%, reaching $4,535.50 per troy ounce. On the other hand, Crude oil prices saw a slight decline, with May delivery falling by 1.15% to $91.29 per barrel, and the June Brent oil contract decreasing marginally by 0.03% to $97.96 per barrel. Currency exchange rates remained stable, with the USD/RUB and EUR/RUB both unchanged at 81.00 and 93.62, respectively.
