Overview#
Roblox Corp. experienced a significant drop in its stock price, falling nearly 22% in premarket trading on Friday. This decline follows the company's announcement of a reduced full-year revenue forecast, primarily due to challenges related to its age-verification process.
Earnings Report Details#
In its first quarter report, Roblox reported bookings of $1.7 billion, which was slightly below analysts' expectations of $1.74 billion. The company's revenue of $1.4 billion showed a 39% year-over-year increase but still fell short of the consensus estimate of $1.42 billion. While Roblox's adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of -$0.35 was better than the anticipated -$0.41, the number of daily active users reached only 132 million, significantly lower than the expected 143.8 million. Additionally, users engaged for 31 billion hours, missing the forecast of 33.68 billion hours.
Revised Guidance#
Roblox has revised its full-year 2026 bookings guidance down to between $7.33 billion and $7.6 billion, a decrease from the previous range of $8.28 billion to $8.55 billion. The midpoint of the new guidance, $7.47 billion, is well below the analyst consensus of $8.38 billion. For the upcoming second quarter, the company anticipates bookings of $1.55 billion to $1.61 billion, with a midpoint of $1.58 billion, also falling short of the $1.88 billion consensus.
Reasons for the Decline#
The company attributes its lowered guidance to unexpected challenges from its age-verification rollout, which began in January. This initiative has limited communication for users who have not completed age checks, hindering new user growth. Additionally, the ban on the platform in Russia, effective since December 2025, has contributed to the slowdown. Analysts have noted that this trend may reflect broader challenges faced by platforms catering to younger audiences.
Despite these short-term setbacks, Roblox reported a 40% year-over-year increase in free cash flow, totaling $596 million, which exceeded expectations. The company also introduced Roblox Plus, a new subscription service aimed at enhancing user retention.
