Market Overview#

Portugal's stock market closed lower on Thursday, with the PSI index declining by 2.06%. This drop was largely influenced by poor performances in the Consumer Services, Industrials, and Financials sectors.

Notable Gainers and Losers#

Among the few gainers, Galp Energia Nom saw an increase of 3.79%, rising 0.81 points to close at 22.16. Nos SGPS SA also gained slightly, up 0.75% or 0.04 points, ending at 5.39. In contrast, CTT Correios de Portugal SA faced significant losses, dropping 11.08% or 0.74 points to trade at 5.94. Jeronimo Martins SGPS SA and Sonae SGPS SA also experienced declines of 7.34% and 5.74%, respectively.

Overall, the number of declining stocks outpaced those that rose, with 19 stocks falling compared to just 5 that gained, while 4 remained unchanged on the Lisbon Stock Exchange.

Commodities and Currency Update#

In commodities, Brent oil prices rose by 2.13%, reaching $109.67 per barrel. Crude oil for May delivery also increased by 1.59%, hitting $96.98 per barrel. However, the April Gold Futures contract fell significantly, down 6.43% to $4,581.54 per troy ounce.

On the currency front, the euro gained 0.78% against the US dollar, trading at 1.15, while it remained stable against the British pound at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures decreased by 0.51%, settling at 99.36.
