Portugal's Assurance on Jet Fuel Supply#
Portugal's government has expressed confidence that its airports will not face jet fuel shortages in the upcoming months. This reassurance comes amid rising concerns from European airlines as the holiday travel season approaches.
Government Monitoring Fuel Stocks#
Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz stated that the government is actively communicating with oil companies to monitor fuel stock levels at national airports. While specific stock figures were not disclosed, the government is committed to ensuring a steady supply of jet fuel.
European Concerns and Global Context#
European airlines have raised alarms about potential jet fuel shortages due to the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has implications for fuel supply. Europe relies heavily on the Middle East for approximately 75% of its jet fuel imports. Pinto Luz acknowledged the broader European issue but emphasized that Portugal is closely monitoring the situation to prevent any disruptions.
Confidence in Supply Continuity#
Pinto Luz reiterated that no disruptions are expected in the near future. He highlighted that the current demand for jet fuel is being met through domestic production by Galp, available stocks, and imports. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that the fuel supply remains stable during the busy travel months ahead.
