Introduction#

A group of traders on Polymarket, a platform for betting on future events, placed large wagers on a potential cease-fire between the U.S. and Iran just before President Donald Trump announced positive discussions between the two nations.

Significant Bets Placed#

Ten new accounts on Polymarket collectively wagered around $160,000 on the likelihood of a cease-fire occurring by either March 31 or April 15. If their predictions are correct, they stand to earn over $1 million. These bets were made prior to Trump's public announcement about productive talks, indicating that the traders may have had insights into the diplomatic discussions.

Trump's Announcement#

On Monday morning, Trump shared on Truth Social that the U.S. and Iran had engaged in very productive conversations aimed at resolving ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The timing of the bets, which were placed before this announcement, has raised eyebrows regarding the potential insider knowledge of the traders involved.

Notable Account Activity#

One account, operating under the name NOTHINGEVERFRICKINGHAPPENS, has gained attention due to its previous betting history. This account, opened in late February, made significant bets on U.S. military actions against Iran and won over $85,000 on those predictions. Currently, it has placed $8,005 on a cease-fire by March 31 and an additional $15,614 for one by April 15, with these bets already increasing in value by over $30,000.

The scale and timing of these wagers have sparked speculation about whether the traders might have connections to political insiders who could provide them with an advantage in predicting diplomatic outcomes.
