OpenAI is currently in discussions to invest up to $1.5 billion in a new joint venture backed by private equity. This initiative aims to enhance the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in various businesses, as reported by the Financial Times.
Initial Investment Details#
The company intends to start with an initial equity investment of $500 million. The joint venture, which is anticipated to be valued at around $10 billion, is expected to finalize its funding round by early May. Additionally, OpenAI has the option to invest an extra $1 billion at a later date.
Contributions from Other Investors#
Several prominent investors are expected to participate in this venture, including TPG, Bain Capital, and Advent International. Collectively, these investors are projected to contribute approximately $4 billion to the initiative.
Focus of the Joint Venture#
Internally referred to as “DeployCo,” this joint venture will concentrate on integrating AI tools into the operations of companies owned by private equity firms. The goal is to generate revenue by assisting these businesses in effectively adopting and utilizing AI technology.
