Overview of Market Performance#

Norway's stock market ended lower on Friday, primarily driven by declines in the Media, Transport, and Diversified Financials sectors. The Oslo OBX index, which tracks the performance of the largest companies on the Oslo Stock Exchange, fell by 1.64% by the end of trading.

Notable Gainers#

Despite the overall decline, some companies managed to post gains. Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA saw an increase of 0.98%, closing at 14.40. Hafnia Ltd also rose by 0.60%, finishing at 67.60, while Norsk Hydro ASA gained 0.44%, ending the day at 85.92.

Major Losers#

On the other hand, several companies experienced significant losses. Yara International ASA dropped 5.59%, closing at 516.40. Nel ASA declined by 5.49%, ending at 2.14, and Aker BP ASA fell 4.14%, closing at 351.60. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 167 stocks falling compared to 90 that gained, and 22 remaining unchanged.

Commodity and Currency Updates#

In the commodities market, crude oil prices saw an increase, with May delivery rising by 1.15% to $96.65 per barrel. Brent oil for May delivery also increased by 0.59%, reaching $109.29 per barrel. However, gold prices fell, with the April Gold Futures contract decreasing by 1.08% to $4,556.01 per troy ounce.

In currency trading, the euro strengthened against the Norwegian krone, rising by 0.86% to 11.06, while the US dollar increased by 1.28% to 9.59. The US Dollar Index Futures also saw a rise of 0.47%, reaching 99.52.
