Overview of the Market#

On Wednesday, the stock market in the Netherlands closed with a slight increase. The AEX index, which represents the performance of the largest companies listed in Amsterdam, gained 0.05% by the end of the trading day.

The rise in the AEX was supported by positive movements in several sectors, particularly Oil & Gas, Telecoms, and Consumer Goods. These sectors helped lift overall market sentiment, contributing to the modest gain in the index.

Notable Gainers and Losers#

Among the top performers on the AEX, Magnum Ice Cream NV saw a significant increase of 2.76%, closing at 13.47. Shell PLC also performed well, rising by 2.27% to finish at 37.56. Additionally, ASM International NV gained 1.92%, closing at 722.20.

On the other hand, some companies faced declines. CVC Capital Partners PLC was the biggest loser, dropping 8.86% to 10.80. DSM Firmenich AG fell by 1.91% to 55.42, and Prosus decreased by 1.61%, ending at 45.90. Overall, there were 66 declining stocks compared to 29 that rose, with 10 remaining unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.

Commodities and Currency Updates#

In commodities, crude oil prices saw a notable increase, with April delivery rising by 3.92% to $86.72 per barrel, and Brent oil for May delivery climbing 4.40% to $91.66 per barrel. However, gold prices fell, with April futures down 1.06% to $5,186.70 per troy ounce.

In currency markets, the euro remained stable against the US dollar and the British pound, with the EUR/USD at 1.16 and the EUR/GBP at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures increased by 0.39% to 99.19.
