Overview of Kazakhstan's Oil Production#

In April, Kazakhstan experienced a significant boost in oil and gas condensate production, increasing by 16% compared to March. This rise brought total production to 2.17 million barrels per day (bpd), up from 1.87 million bpd the previous month.

Key Contributors to the Increase#

The primary driver of this increase was the Tengiz oilfield, the largest in Kazakhstan. Production at Tengiz surged by 39%, reaching 973,000 bpd. This recovery follows a major power outage that impacted operations in January. Tengiz is operated by Tengizchevroil, a joint venture that includes Chevron, Exxon Mobil, KazMunayGaz, and Lukoil.

Other Major Fields#

In addition to Tengiz, other significant fields also contributed to the overall production increase. The Kashagan field saw a 9% rise in output, reaching 414,000 bpd, while the Karachaganak field experienced a 6% increase, producing 250,600 bpd.

Production vs. Quotas#

When excluding gas condensate, Kazakhstan's crude oil production climbed to 1.93 million bpd in April, up from 1.64 million bpd in March. This figure exceeds Kazakhstan's OPEC+ quota of 1.579 million bpd for the month, highlighting the country's substantial role in the global oil market, accounting for over 2% of total output.
