Market Overview#
Italian stocks experienced a positive trading session on Monday, with the Investing.com Italy 40 index rising by 0.88% at the close in Milan. This increase was largely fueled by strong performances in the Telecoms, Financials, and Technology sectors.
Top Performers#
Among the standout performers, Telecom Italia saw a significant increase of 4.69%, closing at 0.60. Banco Bpm SpA followed closely with a gain of 3.69%, finishing at 11.66, while Bper Banca SpA rose by 3.54% to close at 10.84. These gains highlight the strength of the telecom and financial sectors in the current market.
Notable Declines#
On the other hand, some stocks faced notable declines. DiaSorin SpA experienced the largest drop, losing 12.77% to trade at 55.62. Poste Italiane SpA also fell by 6.85%, closing at 19.98, while Eni SpA shed 3.60% to end at 22.52. Despite these losses, the overall market saw more advancing stocks than declining ones, with 367 stocks gaining compared to 342 that fell.
Commodities and Currency Update#
In commodities, crude oil prices saw a significant decline, with May delivery down 8.59% to $89.79 per barrel. Brent oil for June delivery also fell by 8.50%, hitting $97.36 per barrel. Additionally, gold futures for June dropped by 3.98%, trading at $4,425.99 per troy ounce. In currency markets, the EUR/USD exchange rate remained stable at 1.16, while the US Dollar Index Futures decreased by 0.41% to 99.06.
