Market Overview#

India's stock market closed lower on Wednesday, with significant declines in the Auto, Banking, and Real Estate sectors. The Nifty 50 index dropped by 1.63%, reaching a new six-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell by 1.72%.

Top Performers#

Despite the overall decline, some stocks managed to gain. Jio Financial Services Ltd saw a rise of 1.06%, ending at 238.50. Coal India Ltd increased by 0.76% to close at 446.90, and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd was up by 0.62%, finishing at 1,824.00.

Major Losers#

On the other hand, several stocks faced significant losses. Bajaj Finance Ltd dropped by 5.16%, trading at 891.35. Axis Bank Ltd fell by 4.62% to end at 1,254.00, and Bajaj Finserv Ltd decreased by 3.81%, closing at 1,796.60.

Market Statistics#

The decline in stocks was notable, with 1,484 stocks falling compared to 1,025 that rose, while 49 remained unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2,211 stocks fell, and 1,800 advanced, with 137 unchanged. The India VIX, which measures market volatility, increased by 12.17% to 21.20.

Commodities and Currency#

In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery fell by 0.90% to $5,195.16 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices rose, with April delivery increasing by 4.10% to $86.87 per barrel, and the May Brent oil contract up by 3.85% to $91.18. In currency markets, the USD/INR rose by 0.21% to 92.14, while the EUR/INR slightly decreased by 0.01% to 106.76.
