Gulf States' Strategy Against Iran#

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and several other countries in the Persian Gulf are intensifying their efforts to weaken Iran's ruling regime. This comes in response to a series of attacks from Tehran and the recent closure of the crucial Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for global oil transport.

Concerns Over Iranian Attacks#

A senior official from the Gulf region stated that due to the unpredictable nature of Iranian strikes, the only acceptable outcome would be the dismantling of Iran's capabilities to prevent future attacks on neighboring countries. This reflects the growing urgency among Gulf states to address the threats posed by Iran.

Impact on Global Oil Supply#

Sultan al-Jaber, the UAE's Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, emphasized that Iran's actions, particularly the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, could disrupt not only Gulf oil exporters but also countries worldwide that rely on these oil supplies. The Strait of Hormuz is vital, as it carries about 20% of the world's oil.

Effects on Oil Prices and Shipping#

In light of the threat from Iranian attacks, shipping companies have significantly reduced tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz due to difficulties in securing insurance for their voyages. This reduction in traffic has led to a surge in oil prices, raising concerns about a potential increase in global inflation. Al-Jaber, who also leads ADNOC, one of the world's largest oil companies, noted that some operations have already been affected by these Iranian actions. However, he assured that production would increase once the regional conflict is resolved.
