Market Overview#

On Wednesday, Greek stocks closed lower, with the Athens General Composite Index dropping by 0.62%. This decline was primarily driven by losses in the Telecoms, Household, and Basic Resources sectors.

Top Performers#

Despite the overall downturn, some companies managed to post gains. ADMIE IPTO SA saw an increase of 2.48%, closing at 2.89. OPAP Holding SA rose by 2.33% to finish at 14.51, while Aktor Symmetochon Technikon kai Energoiakon Ergon AE gained 1.92%, closing at 10.64.

Notable Declines#

On the flip side, several stocks faced significant losses. Evropi Holdings SA dropped 4.11% to 1.99, Elvalhalcor Hellenic Copper and Aluminium Industry SA fell by 3.90% to 3.70, and Intracom Holdings SA decreased by 3.83% to 3.02. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 76 stocks falling compared to 42 that gained, while 12 remained unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.

Commodity and Currency Updates#

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery fell by 2.84%, settling at $4,866.20 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude Oil for May delivery increased by 2.36%, reaching $97.78 per barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose by 5.45% to $109.06 per barrel.

In the currency market, the EUR/USD exchange rate remained stable, changing by only 0.16% to 1.15, while the EUR/GBP was also relatively unchanged at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures saw a slight increase of 0.21%, reaching 99.54.
