Market Overview#

On Friday, Greek stocks closed lower, with the Athens General Composite Index dropping by 0.60%. This decline marks a new three-month low for the index, primarily influenced by losses in the Telecoms, Banking, and Household sectors.

Notable Performers#

Despite the overall downturn, some companies saw gains. Athens International Airport SA led the session with a rise of 2.88%, closing at 10.73. Lamda Develop followed closely, increasing by 2.86% to finish at 6.12. Metlen Energy & Metals also performed well, up by 2.49% to close at 35.46.

Major Declines#

On the flip side, several stocks faced significant losses. Autohellas experienced the largest drop, falling by 3.71% to 10.90. Piraeus Bank SA also saw a decline of 3.52%, ending at 6.85, while Gr Sarantis SA decreased by 3.42% to close at 13.56. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 65 stocks falling compared to 48 that gained, and 14 remaining unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.

Commodities and Currency Updates#

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery decreased by 1.18%, settling at $4,551.40 per troy ounce. In contrast, Crude oil prices rose, with May delivery increasing by 1.08% to $96.58 per barrel, and the May Brent oil contract rising by 0.56% to $109.26 per barrel.

In currency markets, the EUR/USD exchange rate remained stable at 1.15, while the EUR/GBP was unchanged at 0.87. The US Dollar Index Futures saw a slight increase of 0.42%, reaching 99.48.
