Market Overview#
Greece's stock market faced a downturn on Wednesday, with the Athens General Composite index dropping by 1.38% at the close of trading. This decline was primarily influenced by losses in key sectors, including Telecoms, Banking, and Household goods.
Notable Gainers#
Despite the overall market decline, a few stocks managed to perform well. Ekter saw an increase of 2.72%, closing at 4.15. Thrace Plastic rose by 1.75% to finish at 4.07, while Aktor Symmetochon Technikon kai Energoiakon Ergon AE gained 1.45%, ending the day at 11.16.
Major Losers#
On the other hand, several companies experienced significant losses. Aegean Airlines fell by 6.51%, trading at 12.20. Athens International Airport SA saw a decline of 6.02%, closing at 10.30, while Qualco Group SA dropped by 3.57%, ending at 5.68. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 82 stocks falling compared to 38 that gained, and 11 remaining unchanged.
Commodities and Currency Update#
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery increased by 0.73%, reaching $4,753.95 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices also rose, with June delivery increasing by 2.24% to $91.68 per barrel, and Brent oil rising by 2.46% to $100.90 per barrel. In currency markets, the EUR/USD exchange rate remained stable, changing only slightly by 0.13% to 1.17, while EUR/GBP was unchanged at 0.87. The US Dollar Index Futures saw a minor increase of 0.04%, reaching 98.26.
