Introduction#
Google recently announced an expansion of its Gemini AI capabilities across its productivity applications, including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. These new features aim to automate tasks like document creation, spreadsheet management, and presentation design for subscribers of Google AI Ultra and Pro.
Enhanced Document Creation in Google Docs#
With the latest updates, users can now ask Gemini to create documents by simply describing their needs. For example, if you want to draft a newsletter, you can instruct Gemini to use meeting minutes and event lists from your existing files. The AI can also refine specific sections or entire documents and ensure consistency in writing styles. Additionally, a new feature allows Gemini to apply formatting from reference documents, making it easier to populate templates, such as travel itineraries with flight and hotel details from your emails.
Streamlined Spreadsheet Management in Google Sheets#
Google Sheets users can now create entire spreadsheets using text prompts. For instance, you can ask Gemini to organize projects by moving checklists that pull contact information from emails and track quotes from your inbox. The Fill with Gemini feature can generate text, categorize data, and access real-time information from Google Search to automatically fill in tables, such as college application deadlines and tuition costs.
Improved Presentation Design in Google Slides#
In Google Slides, Gemini can generate individual slides that match your presentation themes and pull context from various sources, including files and emails. The AI can also adjust slide designs to fit specific color schemes or create minimal layouts. Google is working on a feature that will allow users to create entire presentations from a single prompt, further simplifying the design process.
AI Overviews in Google Drive#
The Ask Gemini feature in Google Drive provides AI-generated overviews at the top of search results, summarizing relevant information from your files with citations. Users can pose questions across documents, emails, calendars, and web sources, such as seeking tax-related guidance based on their stored files.
These features are currently available to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, with plans for expansion to additional languages in the future.
