Market Overview#

On Monday, French equities closed on a positive note, with the CAC 40 index increasing by 0.31%. The SBF 120 index also saw a rise, climbing 0.33%. This upward movement was primarily fueled by strong performances in the Consumer Services, Basic Materials, and Industrials sectors.

Top Gainers#

Among the leading stocks on the CAC 40, STMicroelectronics NV saw the most significant increase, rising by 2.67% to close at 29.38. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield SE followed closely, gaining 2.58% to end at 96.38. Societe Generale SA also performed well, with a rise of 1.37%, closing at 65.00.

Notable Losers#

Conversely, some stocks faced declines. Capgemini SE experienced a drop of 2.55%, closing at 105.05. Bureau Veritas SA fell by 1.77% to end at 27.68, while Thales saw a decrease of 1.58%, closing at 249.80.

In the SBF 120 index, Atos SE was the standout performer, surging by 7.75% to close at 39.72. Soitec SA and Worldline SA also saw significant gains of 7.05% and 5.73%, respectively. On the downside, Wendel led the declines, falling 4.61% to 74.50. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 246 to 237, with 90 stocks remaining unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.

Volatility and Commodities#

The CAC 40 VIX, which indicates market volatility, remained unchanged at 18.96, marking a new 52-week high. In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery fell by 1.18% to $5,001.81 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices also dropped, with May delivery down 2.73% to $94.20 per barrel. The Euro strengthened against the US Dollar, rising 0.74% to 1.15, while the US Dollar Index Futures decreased by 0.52% to 99.59.
