Overview#
European spot electricity prices have seen a significant decline for Wednesday, driven by an expected surge in wind power generation across the region.
Price Changes#
According to recent data, the German day-ahead baseload electricity price dropped by 48.6%, reaching 36 euros (approximately $41.73) per megawatt-hour. Similarly, the French equivalent contract fell even more dramatically, decreasing by 68.9% to 16.50 euros per megawatt-hour.
Wind Power Generation#
The increase in wind energy is substantial. In Germany, wind power generation is anticipated to rise by 20.1 gigawatts, reaching a total of 45 gigawatts on Wednesday. In France, wind power output is expected to increase by 10.9 gigawatts, totaling 15.5 gigawatts. This surge in renewable energy is a key factor contributing to the drop in electricity prices.
Demand and Nuclear Availability#
Despite the increase in wind power, German power demand is expected to remain stable at 55.9 gigawatts. In contrast, demand in France is projected to rise slightly by 1.1 gigawatts, reaching 52.5 gigawatts. Additionally, French nuclear power availability remains steady at 80% of its total capacity, indicating a stable supply from this energy source.
