Equinor's New Wind Project#
Norway’s Equinor has announced the acquisition of a 230 megawatt (MW) onshore wind project in Brazil. This project, named the Esquina do Vento complex, is being purchased from Vestas, a Danish company known for manufacturing wind turbines.
Project Details#
The Esquina do Vento complex will consist of 51 wind turbines and is located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, situated on Brazil’s eastern coast. Once operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 1 terawatt hour (TWh) of electricity annually. To put this in perspective, 1 TWh can power around 300,000 homes for a year.
Development Timeline#
Equinor plans to develop and operate the wind farm through its subsidiary, Rio Energy. Construction is anticipated to start in the second quarter of this year, with the aim of commencing commercial operations by 2028.
Long-Term Partnership#
As part of the agreement, Vestas will provide a 30-year service and energy-based availability agreement. This means Vestas will support the project over three decades, ensuring the turbines operate efficiently and reliably.
