Major AI Data Center Announcement#
CoreWeave Inc., Cerebras Systems Inc., and BCE Inc. have announced plans to build a large data center in Regina, Saskatchewan. This facility will focus on artificial intelligence (AI) computing and is expected to begin operations in the first half of next year.
Project Details#
The data center will have a total capacity of 300 megawatts, with specific allocations for each company: Cerebras will utilize 160 megawatts, while CoreWeave will use 140 megawatts. CoreWeave’s operations will rely on Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs), which are specialized hardware designed to handle complex calculations, making them ideal for AI tasks.
Economic Impact#
BCE estimates that this project could generate around C$12 billion (approximately $8.7 billion) in economic value over time. The Montreal-based telecommunications company plans to invest C$1.7 billion to build four data center halls as part of this initiative.
Financial Adjustments#
Due to the costs associated with this project, BCE has revised its free cash flow guidance for 2026. The company now expects its free cash flow to be no more than C$2.3 billion this year, a decrease from a previous estimate of up to C$3.5 billion. Despite this adjustment, BCE believes the data center will enhance its revenue growth and earnings potential in the coming years. CEO Mirko Bibic noted that industry standards value computing hardware at about C$35 million per megawatt, suggesting a total potential value of C$10.5 billion for the Saskatchewan project.
