Acquisition Details#

Closure Systems International (CSI) announced the acquisition of two beverage closure facilities from Amcor, a global packaging company. These facilities are located in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Erie site covers about 183,000 square feet, while the Hattiesburg facility spans approximately 119,000 square feet. Both were previously part of Amcor’s Rigid Packaging Solutions North America business.

Expansion of Production Capacity#

The newly acquired facilities specialize in high-volume beverage applications, which include products like carbonated soft drinks, water, and hot-fill beverages. CSI indicated that this acquisition will enhance its production capacity not only for beverages but also for adjacent categories such as protein drinks, isotonic beverages, juice, and industrial applications. With this addition, CSI now operates nine manufacturing facilities globally, expanding its footprint in North America.

Commitment to Quality and Safety#

Floyd Needham, CEO of CSI, emphasized that integrating these established facilities into their network will improve their ability to provide high-quality and reliable solutions to customers worldwide. The company plans to transition certain production volumes into these facilities by 2026, prioritizing safety, product quality, and uninterrupted service during the integration process.

Context on Amcor#

While the financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, it is noteworthy that Amcor is facing financial challenges, with its shares down 42% over the past six months. The company has a market capitalization of approximately $941 million and carries a total debt of $8.1 billion, generating $4.8 billion in revenue over the last year. This divestiture is part of Amcor's strategy to navigate its current financial headwinds.
