Market Overview#
Canada's stock market saw positive movement on Monday, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index increasing by 1.81% at the close in Toronto. This rise was largely supported by strong performances in the Information Technology, Materials, and Clean Technology sectors.
Top Gainers#
Among the notable gainers on the S&P/TSX Composite were Transcontinental Inc, which surged by 43.88%, adding 1.47 points to close at 4.82. AbraSilver Resource Corp followed with a 10.15% increase, rising 1.01 points to finish at 10.96. Americas Silver Corp also saw a significant boost, climbing 9.49% or 0.70 points to end at 8.08.
Notable Declines#
On the flip side, some stocks faced losses. Vermilion Energy Inc. dropped 6.24%, losing 1.19 points to trade at 17.88. International Petroleum Corp experienced a decline of 4.56%, down 1.67 points to close at 34.95, while Methanex Corporation fell by 3.51%, shedding 2.69 points to finish at 74.00.

Commodities and Currency#
In commodities, Gold Futures for June delivery fell by 3.76%, or 173.44, to $4,436.16 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices also dropped, with May delivery falling 9.04% to $89.35 a barrel, and June Brent oil down 9.13% to $96.70 a barrel. In currency markets, the Canadian dollar remained stable against the US dollar and the Euro, with slight changes of 0.05% and 0.41%, respectively.
