Market Overview#

Canada's stock market experienced a positive close on Tuesday, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index rising by 0.16%. This increase was largely fueled by strong performances in the Information Technology, Energy, and Clean Technology sectors.

Notable Gainers#

Among the top performers on the S&P/TSX Composite, goeasy Ltd saw a significant rise of 13.14%, adding 4.44 points to reach a closing price of 38.24. ATS Corporation also performed well, increasing by 6.19% or 2.45 points to close at 42.00. NFI Group Inc followed suit, climbing 5.71% or 1.02 points to finish at 18.87.

Biggest Declines#

On the flip side, some stocks faced losses. G Mining Ventures Corp dropped 6.36%, losing 3.12 points to trade at 45.90. OceanaGold Corporation fell by 5.34%, down 2.57 points to end at 45.56. NovaGold Resources Inc also saw a decline of 3.96%, shedding 0.55 points to close at 13.33.

Market Activity#

Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered those that declined, with 560 stocks rising compared to 382 that fell, while 76 remained unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which indicates market volatility, decreased by 1.28% to 19.30.

Commodities and Currency#

In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery increased by 0.13%, reaching $5,008.90 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices also rose, with May delivery up 3.18% to $95.40 a barrel, and Brent oil for May increased by 3.46% to trade at $103.68 a barrel. The Canadian dollar remained stable against the US dollar and the Euro, while the US Dollar Index Futures fell by 0.13% to 99.34.
