Introduction#
Chinese social media company ByteDance is expanding its cloud infrastructure by utilizing Nvidia's advanced Blackwell chips. This move comes as ByteDance seeks to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities on a global scale.
Partnership with Aolani Cloud#
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, ByteDance is collaborating with Aolani Cloud, a Southeast Asian firm, to deploy at least 500 Nvidia Blackwell servers in Malaysia. This setup will incorporate approximately 36,000 B200 chips, which are essential for processing complex AI tasks.
Navigating Trade Restrictions#
Due to U.S. restrictions, Nvidia is prohibited from selling its high-end AI chips directly to China. In response, Chinese companies like ByteDance have been establishing data centers outside of China to access these advanced technologies. Earlier reports indicated that ByteDance is also utilizing B200 Nvidia chips in a data center located in Indonesia.
Enhancing AI Offerings#
As part of its strategy to compete globally in the AI sector, ByteDance is actively developing various AI applications. The company has recently launched several AI tools both in China and internationally, including the AI video generation model Seedance, which has gained significant popularity.
