Partnership Announcement#
Brookfield and The Nuclear Company have announced a new partnership aimed at developing Westinghouse nuclear reactor technology in the United States. This collaboration focuses on project execution for specific reactor models, including the AP1000 and AP300.
Project Management Role#
As part of this partnership, Brookfield has been appointed as the project manager for the V.C. Summer Nuclear Units 2 and 3 project located in Fairfield County, South Carolina. These two AP1000 units were partially constructed before work was halted. The involvement of Santee Cooper, South Carolina’s state-owned utility, supports this initiative.
Future Steps#
The development of the V.C. Summer project will require further evaluation, regulatory approvals, and the execution of definitive agreements. The companies expect to finalize the necessary documentation in the coming months, contingent on standard approvals and conditions.
Company Background#
Brookfield manages over $1 trillion in assets across various sectors, including infrastructure and renewable energy. The Nuclear Company was established by veterans of the nuclear power industry, bringing extensive experience from projects like the Vogtle Units 3 and 4. This partnership aims to leverage their combined expertise and resources for successful nuclear project delivery.
