Market Overview#
Brazilian stocks saw a positive close on Thursday, with the Bovespa index rising by 0.35%. This increase was primarily fueled by strong performances in the Public Utilities, Electric Power, and Consumption sectors.
Top Performers#
Among the biggest gainers on the Bovespa, Hapvida Participacoes e Investimentos led the way, surging 14.98% to close at 9.30. Natura & Co SA followed, with a gain of 4.28%, ending at 9.71. Eneva SA also saw a notable increase, rising 3.90% to finish at 25.40.
Notable Declines#
On the flip side, some stocks faced significant losses. Minerva SA/Brazil dropped 10.70%, closing at 3.86. Brava Energia SA fell by 4.33% to 17.48, while Grupo Vamos SA decreased by 2.87%, ending at 3.41. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered rising ones, with 525 declines compared to 401 gains, and 42 stocks remained unchanged on the B3 Stock Exchange.
Volatility and Commodities#
The CBOE Brazil ETF Volatility index, which reflects the expected volatility of Bovespa options, increased by 2.81% to 40.18. In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery fell by 4.81% to $4,660.86 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices for May delivery dropped 1.16% to $94.35 per barrel, while US coffee futures rose by 3.18% to $302.20.
In currency markets, the Brazilian Real weakened against the US Dollar, with the USD/BRL down 0.86% to 5.22, while the EUR/BRL rose by 0.27% to 6.05. The US Dollar Index Futures also decreased by 0.87% to 99.00.
