Market Overview#
Brazil's stock market saw positive movement on Monday, with the Bovespa index increasing by 0.20% at the close of trading in São Paulo. This uptick was primarily fueled by strong performances in the Public Utilities, Electric Power, and Consumption sectors.
Top Performers#
Among the notable gainers on the Bovespa, Companhia Brasileira De Distribuicao (PCAR3) led the way, surging 10.21% to close at 2.51. Other significant winners included Companhia de Saneamento Basico do Estado de Sao Paulo (SBSP3), which rose by 4.36% to finish at 176.41, and Brava Energia SA (BRAV3), which increased by 4.35% to close at 20.50.
Notable Declines#
On the flip side, some stocks experienced losses. C A Modas SA (CEAB3) fell by 2.19%, trading at 12.94. Lojas Renner SA (LREN3) declined by 1.81% to end at 15.12, while Totvs SA (TOTS3) shed 1.61%, closing at 34.77. Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered those that fell, with 525 stocks gaining compared to 429 that declined, and 59 remaining unchanged on the B3 Stock Exchange.
Volatility and Commodities#
The CBOE Brazil ETF Volatility index, which indicates the expected volatility of Bovespa options, decreased by 2.02% to reach a one-month low of 31.07. In commodities, Gold Futures for June delivery dropped by 0.89% to $4,836.36 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude Oil for June delivery rose by 5.29% to $86.96 per barrel, and the July US coffee C contract increased by 1.27% to $287.85.
In currency markets, the USD/BRL exchange rate remained stable at 4.97, while the EUR/BRL rose slightly to 5.86. The US Dollar Index Futures saw a minor decline of 0.03%, settling at 97.87.
