Market Overview#

Brazil's stock market faced a downturn on Wednesday, with the Bovespa index falling by 0.43% at the close of trading in Sao Paulo. This decline was primarily influenced by losses in the Basic Materials, Financials, and Consumption sectors.

Top Performers#

Despite the overall decline, some stocks managed to gain. Eneva SA saw a significant increase of 15.08%, rising 3.19 points to close at 24.37. Other notable gainers included Companhia Paranaense de Energia COPEL, which rose by 5.56% or 0.80 points to finish at 15.27, and Prio SA, up 5.33% or 3.34 points, closing at 66.03.

Major Declines#

On the flip side, several stocks experienced substantial losses. Raizen SA Preferred dropped by 9.84%, losing 0.06 points to trade at 0.55. Companhia Brasileira De Distribuica fell by 9.25%, down 0.21 points to end at 2.10, while Hapvida Participacoes e Investimentos decreased by 4.76%, closing at 8.25 after shedding 0.41 points. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 661 to 289, with 34 stocks remaining unchanged on the B3 Stock Exchange.

Volatility and Commodities#

The CBOE Brazil ETF Volatility, which indicates market expectations for future volatility, decreased by 3.29%, settling at 39.08. In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery fell by 3.91%, trading at $4,812.29 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude Oil for May delivery rose by 3.96%, reaching $99.31 a barrel, while US coffee prices dropped by 0.75%, trading at $292.55.

Currency Movements#

In currency markets, the Brazilian Real weakened against the US Dollar, with the USD/BRL rising by 1.31% to 5.26. The Euro also appreciated against the Real, with the EUR/BRL increasing by 0.71% to 6.03. Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index Futures rose by 0.76%, reaching 100.08.
