Brazilian stocks closed lower on Friday, with the Bovespa index dropping 2.25%, marking a new one-month low. This decline was primarily influenced by losses in the Real Estate, Public Utilities, and Industrials sectors.

Notable Gainers#

Despite the overall market downturn, some stocks managed to post gains. Prio SA saw an increase of 3.14%, closing at 67.03. Cvc Brasil ON rose by 3.13% to end at 1.95, while Vivara Participacoes SA increased by 2.20%, finishing at 25.08.

Major Losers#

On the other hand, several stocks faced significant losses. Braskem SA plummeted by 14.21%, closing at 10.19. Cyrela Brazil Realty SA Preferred dropped 8.93% to 23.50, and Cyrela Brazil Realty SA fell by 7.60%, ending at 24.93. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 626 declines compared to 354 gains, and 32 stocks remaining unchanged on the B3 Stock Exchange.

Volatility and Commodities#

The CBOE Brazil ETF Volatility, which indicates the expected fluctuations in Bovespa options, increased by 0.05% to 40.20. In commodities, April Gold Futures decreased by 2.19% to $4,504.85 per troy ounce. Conversely, Crude Oil for May delivery rose by 2.44% to $97.88 per barrel, and the May US coffee C contract increased by 3.41% to $311.15.

Currency Movements#

In currency markets, the Brazilian Real weakened against the US Dollar, with USD/BRL rising by 1.76% to 5.31. The Euro also appreciated against the Real, with EUR/BRL increasing by 1.51% to 6.14. The US Dollar Index Futures saw a slight increase of 0.29%, reaching 99.35.
